With scientific evidence supporting that time with pets translates into better pain management and fewer medications, St. Louis Children’s Hospital Foundation reached out to Purina with an idea—giving patients an opportunity to see their pets without having to leave the hospital. Purina enthusiastically supported this notion, giving $450,000 for the construction and staffing of The Purina Family Pet Center. The Purina Family Pet Center is more than a room, it is a true oasis where children can experience the therapeutic impact of interacting with their pets.
The Purina Family Pet Center is the fourth pet center located in a pediatric hospital in the world, with a 300 square foot room that accommodates children in hospital beds and wheelchairs. The emotional support and enlightenment that pets bring to the children is unparalleled, and the efforts of St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Purina have allowed this joy to happen.
