Mommy’s Favorite Things – 7 ideas to Relax and Unwind
Hey Moms!
Looking for some ideas on things to do to relax and unwind? We know it’s hard to find the time as a busy Mom to have some proper You time, but never fear, we’ve got your back. Today, we’re going to share some of mommy’s favorite things to unwind, relax, have some time for yourself, and keep sane!
From pampering yourself with a Mani/Pedi to playing games with your kids, you’re sure to find something you enjoy! So without further ado, let’s get started.
#1 – Get a Mani/Pedi
First, foremost, and most importantly, a Mani/Pedi. Sure, you can get a professional treatment that will feel amazing and ideal if you can find the time or want an activity to do while hanging out with friends.
But, understandably, life is busy, and sometimes you won’t have the time to set aside, typically when you usually need the treatment more than most. But don’t worry, you still enjoy this treatment at home, even if you only have a spare half hour.
All you need to do is break out the nail polish, find a comfortable spot to sit or recline, and get painting! Not only does this give you some time to relax and take your mind off of things for a bit, but you’ll also end up with fabulous-looking nails that you can be proud of.
And, as a bonus, if you have young kids, this can be a fun activity to do together! It’s one of Mommy’s favorite things they’ll also love to get involved with. It’s a great way to bond with them while also getting some time for yourself. Win-win!
#2 – Go for a Walk
Getting out of the house and breathing in that fresh air will always do wonders for your state of mind, and there’s no doubt that Mommy needs some time outdoors.
What’s more, this is a great activity you can enjoy with the entire family. Your kids get to run around and burn off some much-needed steam (especially if there’s a play park in your area), and you all get the benefits of being out in nature. It’s a good time, good exercise, and a rather lovely active way to unwind.
#3 – Play Games
This is another excellent activity to enjoy with the kids, but it’s also a lot of fun if you can rope in some friends too. Whether you’re playing classic board games or something a little more active, like throwing a Frisbee in the park, getting competitive (or not), and just enjoying some good old-fashioned fun is always a great way to spend some time.
And, if you’re playing with your kids, it’s a brilliant opportunity to teach them about taking turns, being a good sport, and having fun without screens! They’ll love it, and you might just find yourself getting into the spirit of things too.
It’s so easy to get stuck in the cycle of being a Mom and forgetting to have some fun, but these activities are a great way to remind yourself of how important it is to relax and unwind every now and again. You deserve it!
Snakes and ladders is one of our personal favorites!
#4 – Get Crafty
This is an excellent activity for Mom’s who want to unwind but also be productive at the same time. Whether scrap-booking, knitting, sewing, or even just painting or drawing, getting crafty is a fantastic way to pass the time and end up with something beautiful (or useful) to show.
It’s also a great activity to do with kids, as they love getting stuck in and being creative. And, who knows, you might just find a new hobby that you really enjoy in the process!
#5- Watch a Movie
Sometimes, it doesn’t get better than one of Mommy’s favorite things; vegging out in front of the TV and watching a movie.
We all have our favorite comfort films that we can watch repeatedly, and there’s nothing wrong with taking an hour or two out of your day just to relax.
This is another one of Mommy’s favorite things to do with the kids. Pop some popcorn or your other favorite treat, snuggle up on the sofa, and enjoy spending some quality time together while also getting a break from reality. It’s the perfect way to relax and unwind!
#6 – Take a Power Nap
This is one for Mom’s who are really struggling to find the time to relax. If you can snatch a 20-30 minute power nap during the day, it’ll do wonders for your energy levels and state of mind.
Of course, this isn’t always possible, but if you can manage it, it’s definitely worthwhile. Just make sure you set an alarm, so you don’t end up sleeping for hours!
#7 – Have a Clear Out
To finish off our list, this is our actual favorite; having a clear-out and a de-cluttering spree. Marie Kondo your space. Maybe even nuking it. When you have kids, especially ones growing up fast, stuff accumulates everywhere. And it’s not just toys; clothes, schoolwork, art projects, kitchen utensils… the list goes on.
It’s incredibly therapeutic to go through everything and get rid of anything you no longer need or want. Not only will it de-clutter your home, but it’ll also give you a sense of calm and control. And that is something we could all do with a bit more of!
Recycle the rubbish. Donate old, unwanted toys to charity. Sell it all on eBay. Give it all to friends.
What you do is up to you, what matters is the process of having a good old clear out. We love this one because you can spend an afternoon enjoying it or even just continue working on your space for a few minutes a day as you move from room to room.
Your home is your space, but it’s easy to neglect, so Mommy, give some time to love your home, and you’ll love yourself in return!
Summary
Remember, these are all activities you can do as a family or by yourself. Sometimes you can do one, and sometimes the other. It’s really up to you to tune into your needs as a Mom and what you need.
Sure, compromises need to be made from time to time, but if you want to show up as the best version of yourself for yourself and your family, then it’s important to look after yourself!
