Guardian of Childhood – Kayla Valloni, RN

As a registered nurse in the Heart Center, Kayla reflects on what it means to her to be a guardian of childhood with a story about a baby she was able to take care of for only a few days. She describes the ways that the staff at St. Louis Children’s Hospital go the extra mile to help and comfort families in many circumstances, even if the child has passed on.

St. Louis Children’s Hospital-Washington University in Saint Louis, MO is ranked nationally in 10 pediatric specialties. The heart center at St. Louis Children’s hospital has the largest pediatric heart team in the region, including over cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac interventionalists, electrophysiologists, cardiac anesthesiologists, and over 80 clinical staff members.

The Guardians of Childhood is an initiative through St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri that helps every kid be and stay healthy through a variety of programs. A key priority of the Guardians of Childhood is to discover better treatments and find cures for childhood illnesses and diseases.
