RIE Parenting: Why I Love this Respectful Parenting Approach!
The Parenting Junkie loves the RIE philosophy even if not every part of it works for her family. RIE was originally coined by Magda Gerber. It is based on Magda Gerber’s teachings which are inspired by her work with Emi Pikler. Today the RIE movement is spearheaded by Lisa Sunbury Gerber and Janet Lansbury. I was first introduced to the RIE parenting method through Janet Lansbury’s blog. R.I.E. stands for resources for infant educaring and is a parenting method that emphasizes treating the baby (and child) with respect. RIE parenting stresses the importance of respecting babies. This respectful parenting approach informs parents how to communicate with their children from the earliest of ages in a respectful manner. As you know I use a combination of parenting methods as I do not believe in a one size fits all approach and the RIE parenting philosophy is what guides me in my respectful parenting.
